Brief: Design a coffee table using sustainable materials and processes
2019
Timeframe: 18 Weeks

Concept Sketches

The Initial concept for this coffee table design began as a two-tiered form for storage. I thought about using a ceramic frame but then considered the weight of it.

The next iteration instead used anodised aluminium side panels. In the aim of sustainability I chose to keep the processing of the tabletop/shelf to near nothing except producing a square board and drilling holes for some screws. This version still felt a bit agricultural with the exposed bolt heads and square tabletop

Iteration 1

My next revision switched the top to a moulded plywood
component and changed the colour and simplified the frame.
This design was too boring and had no identity.

The final form of the table ended up with a more continuous curve and a less bulky frame.
